South Whitwell Baptist belongs to the Southern Baptist Convention (http://www.sbc.net/), the Tennessee Baptist Convention (http://tnbaptist.org/), and the Sequatchie Valley Baptist Association. The church is an Elder led congregation, but it is congregational in its voting and holds to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. (see 'What We Believe' section).
Darrell A. Winters has served at SWBC since December of 2004 and is Senior Pastor. His wife is April and his step-daughter is Annabelle. He received his M.Div. from Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX and his D.Min. from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, MO. 2 Timothy 2:15 is one verse that he tries to keep in his mind and heart. Some of his favorite authors are James White, Tim Keller, Al Mohler, R.C. Sproul, Mark Dever, John Piper, John MacArthur, and others like these. Monergism.com is a favorite website of his.
Larry Meade has served at SWBC since August of 2009. Larry is married to Susan and they
have four children, David, Sarah, Michelle, and Dylan. He studied at Tennessee Temple.

The town of Whitwell, where the church is located, arose from its early coal mining days.
Many of the mines are now shut down but Whitwell continues to be a bedroom community for the Chattanooga area.
